An intimate performance of 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' by the one and only Axl Rose.
This show is a FUCKIN MASTERPIECE
“I should’ve gone with you” 🥺🥺🥺
Jack Huston 😮😮😮
Richard Harrow 😮😮😮
I have found that the greatest mistake, when watching any scene with Richard Harrow in it, is watching the center of his face where the mask meets what remains of the skin. Despite the character's efforts to become socially presentable, there is an essential flicker of human expression, of humanity, which is snuffed out with the mask.
Was Jimmy giving him the answer he needed to hear to keep the invaluable use of Richard ? Was Richard a vital tool for Jimmy - a man who seemed incapable of feelings after the war after all ?
It's a crime Huston didn't get any awards for Richard's performance
This scene. Jimmy's worst mistake was not taking Harrow with him to meet Nucky, Even the mention by Jimmy that Harrow was nearby ready to shoot anyone that pulled a gun on Jimmy and he would have walked away unscathed. Jimmy wanted to die.
Literally me
I'm just gonna say, I was happy when Angela died, she was a royal C word.
Would you? It's hard for me to believe anyone would. But that's not my fault and I have to figure out how to fix it
Phenomenal fucking character and performance.
Harrow breaks me. Can't even imagine how alone and isolated he must feel, completely detached from society. It's just a show, but it's so convincing acting with so much conviction. Feeling empty inside, yet still has so much to give. Dude made me weep too many times.
The physical damage also still irritated him to some extent
Very good 😮😮😮
The show runners royally fucked up the show for me when they killed off jimmy and sideline richard. You don't build characters up as the focus of the show, a rags to riches story, only to redirect the focus to what is technically a supporting character (nucky). The writing had so much depth and substance that made us easily overlook the characters criminal careers. Their dreams, desires, vices, inner struggles, and flaws allowed us to relate and connect with them (we can see our struggles to provide for our family, battles with addiction, lust for flesh and power). The show runners chose to have the show be about a gangster maintaining his businesses and the beefs he'll constantly have because gangsters are angry, dishonest, and greedy people. Problems were introduced, then nucky couldn't handle said problems, then when it seems like he's about to lose it all, a series of events happen that would result in him never lost anything at all. The most they did was having nucky get haunting flashbacks and regrets of killing jimmy for about 4-5 episodes. Nucky was nucky at the start and he was nucky at the end. We learned nothin new of him. His death was the least sad or memorable for me.
Too good
Richard is the best friend anyone could hope for.
Will you fight for me in this context is a question that a vulnerable soldier is asking another fellow soldier. The brotherhood of arms. This isn't something that civilians can totally understand, I don't think. It's beyond our life experience, but we can understand the emotion behind the question all too well. It's akin to asking your hopeful if they love you, and hoping for that particular answer "More than anything."
I have friends I grew up with and family I love dearly, but I would never tell them that Id die a 100 deaths for my bros who I served with. When someone is willing to die for u and u for them its an entirely different bond. Its why guys chose to stay and fight and die with their brothers instead of running for their lives. Ive done it and Ill do it again. To those who chose to stay and fight I salute you.
The most dangerous killers are ones with humanity. I know that sounds crazy.
Damm .. Only those that know a bond like this. Fuuuking tears right now... CIB with a star and this vid clip hits me .
Fun fact, the actor who plays Richard (Jack Huston) is about to direct his first movie soon. And he cast Jimmy (Michael Pitt) as the lead in that movie. It’s called ‘Day of the Fight’. It’s also going to have Ron Perlman and Joe Pesci.
Richard and Jimmy truly were the best of friends
Spoiler* I always wonder what would happened if Jimmy survived and had faced Gyp Rosseti in third season. This would have been so incredible battle. I think Gyp would not have any chance against Nucky and Jimmy in charge. So sad, but at the time so good show. Applouse 👏🏻
Hands down, to me, Richard's story was the best part of this show.
They should have done more with both of them.
This episode made me cry multiple times, Richard is such a well written and tragic character.
Extremely hardened, tough men having tender moments is always such an interesting dynamic. It's not only the stuff of movies either, the bond between men that have been in the trenches together (both literally and figuratively) are some of the strongest, most intimate bonds that exist. It's truely a bond of brothers that would go to hell for each other.
No man is your friend unless he's willing to defend you when your vulnerable. If he won't help you when you're in peril then he's not your friend.
Anyone notice that half of Jimmy's face is shaded out by the lights of the cinematography? Brotherhood
Richard knows Jimmy is a gang member who is putting his life on the line. He isn’t pretending to be his friend, or pretending to be afraid of death. He is ready to die because he’s seen and there’s nothing left to go out like a man.
The idea of the guy next to you getting hit is far more terrifying than the idea of yourself getting hit. In fact, when the shit hits the fan, usually you have so much adrenaline and muscle memory that you don’t really consider the fact that at any moment the hand of statistical chance and geometry may place a bullet into the same space that you are occupying. Usually any concern you have is for the people around you. This is the result of training and shared experiences of danger among a group. This is what separates an effective military unit from ones that crumble under pressure. If you don’t fear your own mortality in moments of duress, you don’t make poor decisions out of fear. In fact, in most contacts, the aggressive return of gunfire, fast and brutal, is the safest thing to do. They won’t stop shooting at you until they fear you. They don’t fear you if you aren’t shooting back. And they won’t stop shooting if you run. They will follow you and shoot you in the back. The art of war is nuanced and far more psychological than just being accurate with a rifle.
One of the best scenes in the entire series.
These two actors did a superb job of showing the bond between brothers….
So many people in this show gave the best performance of their career
One of the best scenes of any show that I've ever watched.
The two had a mutual respect and camaraderie that only men who fight in a war can share. For Richard, who wanted nothing more than a normal life, having Jimmy treat him like he was a normal guy despite his disfigurement probably meant more to him than anything else.
Holy fuck the emotional impact of this. Richard probably hasn’t ever felt a connection as deep as he did w Darmody, at least not since his scarring, and in the way that they share a pain and want only to bring one another up.
Dangerous as all get out.silent, invisible, dead on with a rifle.
Richie was an incredible character, such a tragic backstory and such a well thought out man.
Scorsese and Wahlberg. Responsible for simple hard hitting scenes such as these. Goddamnit! We live in a great time to see this kind of theater on the screen.
Had my girlfriend and I in tears. After Jimmy's response we balled. I honestly thought Jimmy would say something that would hurt Richard but his response and the way he holds Richards head was just beautiful. Them two guys are why i keep coming back to this series
If only my friends would give me this anwser... Me: Then let's go to work.
Two of the best characters in TV history. They ate up every scene they were in.
Some years ago i had a piece of post Great War Facial Prosthetic, it was a glass eye with a porcelain mount with an eyebrow painted on it, i assume the wearer would have installed the glass eye into his empty socket and likely had the upper eye socket destroyed hence the porcelain eye brow fitting.
It's like he wasn't expecting that answer...
Wish had a friendship just like them… Unfortunately doesn’t exist in reality 🥺
ID FIGHT FOR YOU RICHARD 😢😢😢
A brilliant cast overall, but Richard and Jimmy were the most memorable. Two broken men who put each other together again (in a way). Why didn't Jack Huston get an Emmy(s) for his remarkable portrayal of this character. Tour de Force stuff!
Those WW1 veterans sure went through Hell
